Bushranger Golf Handicap Day Results - October 23 2009

The Beach Course at 13th Beach Golf Links

The tenth Victorian Bushranger Golf Handicap Day for 2009 was held at The Beach Course at 13th Beach Golf Links in perfect conditions with superb sunshine and just a breath of wind. A field of 23 scoundrels lined up on the classic links course to play an individual Stableford competition. The event was a prelude to the mighty William Buckley Classic being held over the weekend at the same venue. Below we see BRG impresario Pw Jones getting the round off to a fine start with a solid drive off the first tee.

The big news of the day was the brilliant win by Brett Shemmell for the Nearest the Pin on the par three 7th hole. Although the Bushrangers peppered the pin with a few pills hit to inside six feet (this correspondent included), all were left in disbelief when they arrived on the green to find the NTP owned by Brett with a hole-in-one! A perfectly struck 7-iron covered the flag all the way, landed in the front portion of the green and tracked obediently into the cup! Congratulations to Brett from all at the club for the first ever hole-in-one at a Bushranger Golf event. Fortunately, you don't need an ace or even to score well to have a good time. Below we see three dancing men (The Hominator, Willo & Da King) having a gay old time on the green of the par three 16th hole, despite the fact that they only managed to rack up 75 points between them!

After the massive highlight of Brett's ace, the rest of the results seemed to pale into insignificance. So much so that Steve Foxwell and Michael David, who finished first and third respectively, chose to absent themselves from the presentation ceremony to play more golf! Courtesy of his ace, Brett Shammell took out second place and reigning Victorian Social Golf Club Championships (VSGCC) Champion, Dave Regenspurger must have had the Woody Allan quote "80% of success is just turning up" ringing in his ears when he was given the prizes for third place, which he lost on count-back, but deservedly received for simply having made it to the presentation. Dave is now in the lead for the race for the BRG Player of the Year which looks certain to get very tight over the last two events and, like last year, will probably come down to the last nine holes at the final Handicap Day. Below are the final results.
