2008 VSGCC Results - Qualifier Two - Waterford Valley August 16
|
The 2nd Qualifier for the 2008 VSGCC was played at Waterford Valley on Saturday August 16. Eleven teams teams representing eight social golf clubs teed up for a stableford shootout on a wintery Saturday. The sun kept trying to break through but squalls of rain kept rolling over the nearby Dandenongs. The event featured a swag of great prizes totalling over $1600, including vouchers from The Golf Clearance Outlet, Vision golf balls powered by Fantom and great vino from Heathcote Winery. Thanks also to the Hawthorn Suites & 13th Beach Golf Links for their contribution to the overall prizes and bwired online solutions for their assistance in developing the event website that will be launched very soon. In addition, we are grateful for assistance from Golf Development Performance Services (GDPS) and our media partners Inside Social Golf magazine and Hacker golf magazine for their support.

Results
The results were very close for the teams vying for a podium finish and on the cut line to make the championship final. Out in front, the BRG Thunderbolts bookended the field with one of their team shooting the lowest total for the day and the other three members all shooting the equal best score of 38 stableford points. This meant the Thunderbolts easily won the team event and three of their number had to be seperated by counback to sort out the individual 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes for the day. Fifth and Sixth place in the team event were equal and could not be separated with the tie-breaker fourth score, so these places were determined by a countback by totalling the score for all four players on each team for the back nine. As the Thunderbolts had already won qualification to the VSGCC final, they took away the prizes, but the extra place in the final went to the lucky 8th placed team, The Book Club.

Event Information
The event is a chance for teams representing social golf clubs to compete for the Victorian Championship and over $11,000 in prizes. Teams of four players will compete in regional qualifiers and the leading seven teams from each qualifier will meet in the final to compete for the 2008 Social Golf Club State Championship. With the support of The Victorian Golf Association, Women's Golf Victoria and Golf Australia, Bushranger Golf has partnered with five of Victoria's premier public access golf courses to develop a state championship for golfers who are members of social golf clubs that is officially sanctioned by the games governing amateur bodies. The five foundation courses are:
Each year, one of the foundation courses will host the final and the other four will each host one qualifying round. The venue for the final will rotate annually among the foundation courses and additional courses may host qualifying rounds in the future.
