The 2024 Bushranger Cup
In 2024, the Bushranger Cup will once again be played on the Mornington Peninsula where we enjoy the luxury of one of the best golf precincts in the world. This year we are coming back to do it all over again with a mix courses we have never used before. Features of the 2024 Cup include:
-
Scheduling in the traditional Bushranger Cup month of March
-
Golf on some wonderful courses on the Mornington Peninsula
-
-
Including The Cups Course at The Dunes for the Round One 9 holes.
-
MLGA private practice facilities - pitching green, putting greens & driving range.
- Very civilised tee times (mid-morning on Saturday & not too early on Sunday)
This year we have booked for nine teams of ferocious highwaymen to line up to contest the greatest prize in Australian social golf. As is the tradition, the reigning champions are considered the most recent and infamous bushrangers of all, and so carry the honour of competing as The Kelly Gang. As the BC enters its21st year, we have an exclusive cadre of Bushrangers who have attended 10 or more Cups. They are, in no particular alphabetical order:
Arbeige, Bastros, Boo, Crocko, Dee, Diesal, Dust, Dubs, Geesh, Hatman,
Hendo, Kingo, Luggo, Simmo, Quigley, The Hominator, The Rose & Tommy T.
The Event
The Bushranger Cup is a four-man team event. Each player is assigned a handicap relative to the rest of the field that is used to calculate the team handicaps. Each golfer plays three rounds: one of 9 holes (single strokeplay) and two of 18 holes (2-ball ambrose and 4-ball ambrose) from which each team will derive a 72-hole score. The team with the lowest total will be declared the winner. Note that the Bushranger Cup is a private event with entry by invitation only.

Dress Requirements
Bushrangers should note that the golf courses require neat casual dress on the golf course. This means shirts with a collar, smart slacks or shorts. Please don’t bring ripped clothing, rock'n'roll gear, board shorts or generally shabby attire to wear while golfing your ball. What you do in your own room is up to you. Golf shoes must have soft spikes.
Some Tournament Details
The Format: Each golfer plays 3 rounds: one of 9 holes and two of 18 holes from which each team will derive a 72-hole score. The team with the lowest total will be declared the winner.
The Rules: Since slow play is a potential problem for our gangs, these rules are designed to encourage play in the right spirit and at the right pace. In our ambrose, teams play their chosen best ball on each shot and may place their ball half a club length (about 50 cms) from where the chosen ball lay, no nearer the hole. Balls must be placed in the same cut as the chosen ball. In the interests of fast play from tee to green, teams are NOT required to mark with a tee and precisely measure from the chosen ball as they play each shot. Team members can play in any order on a shot. Putting: Once on the green, Bushrangers should mark near the chosen best ball so both team members play from near enough to the exact same position.
Handicapping: Each team will be assigned handicaps by the tournament director on the basis of official Australian handicaps and information supplied by the Bushrangers. The handicapper will be governed by a commitment to rewarding good play according to a player’s ability.
Playoffs: In the event of a tie, a sudden-death playoff will be conducted. Teams play together as a foursome (taking alternate strokes playing one ball). Teams can determine the order as each member takes their first shot. This order is then continuous and carries over from one hole to the next until the playoff is decided.
Nearest-the-Pin & Longest Drive: will be held as some tasty ‘side action’ between teams.
The Rodeo Rule: This is minimum drives for each team member and will be enforced. Each team’s rodeo requirements will appear on their scorecards.
