The 2005 Bushranger Cup Results
The second Bushranger Cup was held at the testing 36-hole layout of The Tocumwal Golf Club on the weekend of April 1, 2 & 3, 2005. A fighting field of 24 determined competitors fronted on the Friday evening for what became a sensational tournament. After a tough first day, the competition was blown wide open with a near faultless display of two-ball ambrose on the Sunday. Somebody’s koalas had come home to roost and The Bushranger Cup would never be the same. The six gangs who lined up on that sultry April Fools day were:
The Kelly Gang - The last and most infamous of all the Bushrangers, Ned’s crusade to secede from the colony and start his own republic fell slightly short of the mark. An expert self promoter, he always knew the importance of snappy dressing for a photo opportunity. The 2005 gang-members were: John Lazzara, Sam Saltis, Warwick Stonehouse and Joel Thorsen.
Cash & Co. - Martin Cash was known as the polite, gentleman Bushranger. His gang ranged in the 1840s and allegedly escaped Port Arthur in Tasmania by swimming naked to the mainland. The 2005 gang-members were: Ian Crotty, Richard Mitchell, Sebastian Shand and Dominic Wall.
The Captain Moonlite Gang - The devious Andrew George Scott, a man with 3 first names, became the infamous Captain Moonlite when he began robbing banks in the 1870s after throwing in a promising career as a preacher. The 2005 gang-members were: Roger Brown, Michael David, Nick Honey and Matthew Pitt.

The Wild Colonial Boys - Emerging in the turbulent 1850s, these were a new breed of Bushrangers. They were not escaped convicts but the sons of immigrants or colonial born youths with contempt for authority and a desire for quick riches and adventure. The 2005 gang-members were: Richard Fellner, Richard Thurkle, Mick Van Raay and Scott Wilson.
The Aaron Sherritt Gang - Aaron Sherritt was the enigmatic Kelly-sympathizer turned double-agent who was later murdered by his old mate Joe Byrne for his apparent, but unproven, treachery. The 2005 gang-members were: Andrew Collins, James McCusker, Michael Mileo and Richard White.
The Ben Hall Gang - Originally The Frank Gardiner Gang, it became known as The Gilbert Gang when Gardiner was captured in Queensland in 1861. Then it became known as the Gilbert & Hall Gang and later again the Ben Hall Gang. Their revolving door policy remains strong to this day. The 2005 gang-members were: Dave Kidd, Michael Lane, Brett Simpson and Graeme Uhd.

Above, Da King shows the form in Toke in 2005 which took him to the 2001 Duzzo title in Yarrawonga. Everything is looking good to this point (although that club face may be a tad open) but his recent scorecards suggest that from here onwards, things start getting a little crazy in this swing.

Here is the creator of The Bushranger Cup, Arbeige, and a portion of his masterpiece, both doing a little psychological preparation on the Friday evening in Tocumwal. We believe Roger’s shrink is on the phone to him and this is the exact moment he told Roger his by the minute rates. Roger didn’t win, but he’ll back in 2006 with a new shrink and a new can to have another crack.

Roger’s shrink, Simmo, struggling to hide his feelings about his patient as he hangs up after their brief motivational talk on Friday evening. Easy tiger.
|
Pw Jones manages to find a little quiet time during Friday’s practice round. Here he drinks alone in the beautiful Tocumwal landscape, quite possibly driven to it by Roger.

The 2005 Bushranger Cup champions (Saddam, Bastros, Dom & Crocko) and are seen here giving a very clear indication of just how many titles they believe they are capable of winning.
